The Boston Celtics went with an egalitarian approach to their consolation game at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas on Saturday against the Orlando Magic.

That was good news for Caleb Grill.

Not an obvious choice to see big minutes in the earlier games, Grill got 22 minutes on Saturday and shone bright.

Grills dropped a team-high 18 points, making 6-of-12 shots from the floor, including 4-for-9 from 3-point range.

He added three rebounds and an assist in the 103-97 loss.

Who is Caleb Grill?

Grill is 26 years old and entering his second season of professional basketball after a long college career.

He played at Iowa State, then UNLV, then Iowa State for two more years, then Missouri.

He was SEC Sixth Man of the Year in his final season at Mizzou, showing the sparkplug nature of his game that showed up on Saturday for the Celtics.

He split the 2025-26 season in the G League between the Windy City Bulls and Greensboro Swarm.

A game like Saturday’s probably earns Grill another G League look this season, whether that’s from the Maine Celtics or another team.

His odds of reaching the NBA itself aren’t high, but shooting gets chances, and Grill can certainly shoot the basketball.
