Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of series decider at Lord’s

India take on England in the series-deciding final match on Sunday at the home of cricket, Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

After winning the opening match of the series, India meekly surrendered in the 2nd ODI against the hosts, who bounced back in style and are now looking to seal the fate of the series at the iconic venue.

However, just an hour before the match started, the visitors dealt a major injury blow as their star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, was ruled out of the game due to a knee problem.

At the toss, India captain Shubman Gill confirmed that there were three changes in the Men in Blue lineup as Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and KL Rahul came in place of Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube.

Gill told the broadcaster, “We’ve got three changes: Boom misses out, knee injury. So is Washy. KL, Prince, and Arshdeep come back in. We’re not the ones who rely on stats too much, we think [Arshdeep] is a great bowler.

“We lost too many wickets in the middle overs in the last game. Not easy to score runs in the past couple of matches. If we get a few wickets, we’ll be in a comfortable position.”

All eyes on Rohit Sharma during India vs England 3rd ODI at Lord’s

While the encounter at Lord’s is a series-decider, the focus will remain on former India captain Rohit Sharma, who is rumoured to play his final game for India at the home of cricket.

Two days before the game, the Indian Express reported that the BCCI had informed Sharma that he does not fit their long-term plans and is not a certain pick for the ODI World Cup next year.

This reportedly prompted Sharma to take the call to hang up his boots after the Lord’s ODI, although board secretary Devajit Saikia has already denied any such rumours.

A day after Sharma’s retirement news broke, Saikia told PTI: “Want to firmly assert that no discussions on Rohit Sharma playing his last match for India at Lord’s. Rohit Sharma is a regular member of the Indian team and will continue to represent India.”

The board official then added, “Rohit Sharma will be playing for India as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, Lord’s ODI against England won’t be Rohit Sharma’s last match.”
