The World Cup has finally come to an end in the United States, but how the tournament may have affected the upcoming NFL season remains to be seen.

Lessons could be learned by Roger Goodell from the World Cup, with many players already protesting for grass fields to be introduced permanently.

There may well be other positives from the World Cup that could be carried over into the NFL to improve the quality of the game.

However, there are certainly some negatives that fans of the NFL will not want to see creep into American Football on the back of watching the World Cup.

The dark arts of flopping have become a big talking point, but fans feel the commissioner may be interested in the prospect of a third-place game.

NFL fans think Roger Goodell should introduce third-place game

Saturday saw England face France in the third-place game, which ended 6-4 to England and provided some supporters with a fun experience given the number of goals scored.

There was certainly a Pro Bowl feel to the game, with neither coach taking the game seriously heading into the weekend.

However, this could prove an opportunity for Goodell to create more revenue for the NFL by introducing a game between the two sides who lost their respective Conference ties.

‘Unironically a better idea than the Pro Bowl,’ said one fan on X.

‘Ngl, I’d watch a NFL game like this. Broncos vs Rams last year would’ve been a blast waiting for the Super Bowl. Have some incentive to make it worthwhile,’ said another.

Having witnessed what the Pro Bowl has become over recent years, another fan added: ‘This would be better than the Pro Bowl!’

Saturday’s meeting between England and France did see some rotation, with Harry Kane not featuring in the game in Miami.

But it is clear that some NFL fans feel a third-place game could be a real opportunity for the NFL to learn from the World Cup.

‘I’d trade a 3rd place game for the Pro Bowl any other day and twice on a Sunday,’ said one NFL fan.

Even a Los Angeles Rams fan liked the sound of it, they said: ‘Rams broncos game on Saturday before the SB would have been lit!’

‘Add it to the infinite list of things people would watch over the Pro Bowl,’ said another.
