The Pittsburgh Pirates are hoping to shake off their series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers as they welcome the Miami Marlins for a three-game series this weekend.

Alcantara has had a great start to the month of June with a pair of wins against the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays. He has gone seven innings in each of those starts, giving up only four runs across the 14 innings. The Marlins hope that he can get another strong start against the Pirates that will limit the bullpen’s activity.

The Marlins want to have more options deeper in the series, so having Alcantara start the opener sets them up for success as they look to extend a five-game win streak.

The Pirates will counter with Braxton Ashcraft, who has been solid so far this season with a 3.28 ERA and 13 starts for the Bucs. Ashcraft saw his three-game win streak end in his last start against the Atlanta Braves when he pitched five innings and gave up six earned runs in a 6-3 loss on the road. Now that he’s back at home, Ashcraft hopes the energy from the PNC Park crowd will be on his side as he attempts to get back on track.
