FSU baseball star projected to be drafted in second round

FSU baseball’s 2026 season may have ended in the finals of the Tallahassee Regional. With the season over, Link Jarrett and the rest of the coaching staff are now working on building a roster. A massive part of that is which current players will be taken in the 2026 MLB Draft, and one Seminole could hear his name called quite early.
Per MLB.com writer Jim Callis, pitcher Wes Mendes is seen as an intriguing prospect nationally and will be drafted in the second round. Callis has him going to the Colorado Rockies with the No. 38 overall pick.
Part of that is due to his excellent ERA of 2.90, which contributed to a 9-3 record on the mound. He also had the lowest WHIP on FSU with 1.02. Mendes struckout 173 batters in 120 innings, walking 31 and holding opponents to a .218 batting average.
Should he be drafted in the second round, he would join a club of over 300 former Seminoles to have their name called. In 2025, FSU had 11 total players drafted in the 20-round draft, breaking the school record.
The 2026 MLB Draft begins on July 11, and fans can catch it on NBC and the MLB Network.
