Broncos sign Sean Payton to a new five-year contract

The Denver Broncos have signed coach Sean Payton to a new five-year contract, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Thursday. The new contract was confirmed by the team shortly after Schefter broke the news.

Payton had two years remaining on his original contract.

The Broncos also recently gave general manager George Paton a new five-year deal, so the team’s coach and GM are both secured through the 2030 campaign.

Payton took over head coaching duties for Denver after the Broncos traded for his coaching rights from the New Orleans in 2023, finishing 8-9 in his debut season. Every year since, the Broncos have gotten better, going 10-7 in 2024 and 14-3 in 2025, making playoff appearances in each of the last two seasons, falling one game short of the Super Bowl last fall.

Payton’s leadership was lauded by Broncos owner Greg Penner in a statement announcing the new deal. “Sean Payton has led an impressive turnaround over the past three seasons, instilling a winning culture with high expectations,” said Penner. “We’re thrilled for Sean to continue leading our team as head coach, building on our progress during such an exciting time for the Broncos.”
