Brandon Aiyuk aims real low blow at 49ers head coach Kyle Shannahan after brutal car crash
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is recovering from a nasty car crash that happened earlier in the month.
However, the 46-year-old is getting no sympathy from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, as his feud with the 9ers continues to rumble on.
Aiyuk did not play a single game last season despite signing a four-year extension worth $120m with the 9ers.
Coach Shanahan has returned to training camp after it was announced he was involved in a car crash earlier in the month, which almost saw him lose an eye.
The 46-year-old admitted he was at fault in the accident, with Aiyuk taking to social media to take a clear dig at his head coach.
What Brandon Aiyuk said about Kyle Shanahan’s car crash
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Aiyuk’s future following his absence from the 2025 season.
Aiyuk even took to social media earlier in the year to show himself driving by Levi’s Stadium whilst speeding well past the legal limit.
After hearing of Shanahan’s car crash, Aiyuk posted on his Instagram account to take aim at his head coach.
“You can’t win the race if you crash out,” he said.
“Keep yo head up and stay in yo own lane. You gone win.”
Although the wide receiver did not specifically mention Shanahan, the timing of the post, combined with Aiyuk’s situation, makes this post too coincidental not to be in reference to his recent car accident.
Which NFL team Brandon Aiyuk will play for in the 2026 season
Aiyuk has made it clear that he would like to join the Washington Commanders this offseason.
The wide receiver would then be able to team up with former 9ers teammate Deebo Samuel.
Ian Rapoport admitted the Commanders are concerned about Aiyuk’s well-being and the idea of signing him remains a ‘long shot’.
His handling of Shanahan’s car accident is also unlikely to have impressed the Commanders.
The 28-year-old really is not doing himself any favors.
