Detroit Grand Prix officials report record numbers from race weekend

Organizers of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix are reporting record numbers from the fourth edition of the IndyCar event since returning to the downtown streets.

The three-day event May 29-31 drew 156,000 fans, organizers say, matching the 2025 weekend, which is a record since the weekend returned to the downtown Detroit in 2023. Officials say those fans fueled record numbers in concessions and merchandise sales, as well.

That coincides with Detroit Grand Prix viewership numbers from Sunday, May 31, that saw a 10% increase from 2025. Pole-sitter Alex Palou led 71 laps to win the Detroit Grand Prix for the second time in his career.

Saturday’s qualifying broadcast on FS1 drew an average audience of over 343,000 viewers, according to Nielsen ratings, which is tops among qualifying broadcasts this season, with the exception of the Indianapolis 500.
