WNBA’s Cathy Engelbert labeled ‘the worst commissioner in all of sports’ by Dave Portnoy

WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert is on the hot seat following her handling of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.
Caitlin Clark is undoubtedly the WNBA’s most prized asset right now. Unfortunately, the league doesn’t realize that, as is evident from how the Indiana Fever star is treated by her peers.
What’s more surprising is the fact that WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert has failed to protect her on more than one instance. This was once again proven when Engelbert canceled a scheduled interview with Dan Patrick.

Being the commissioner of the WNBA, Engelbert has a responsibility to represent and answer questions if any controversy occurs in the league.
However, Engelbert skipping the interview with Patrick shows that she ran away from her responsibility and this didn’t sit well with Dave Portnoy.
“You’re the commissioner of the WNBA. What do you mean your PR people won’t let you go on? It’s your decision. You’re their boss. Of course, you can overrule,” Portnoy said.
He added, “She’s a total coward, and she has mismanaged this league from the word go, the second Caitlin Clark got in here. They haven’t known how to handle it. She doesn’t know how to answer questions.
“The controversy doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Caitlin not playing doesn’t seem to be killing the ratings unless I’m wrong about it, but it is a shame.”
Portnoy didn’t pull his punches when talking about Engelbert. What’s important is the fact that WNBA fans share emotions about the league’s commissioner.
If Engelbert doesn’t step up soon, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she’s relieved of her duties in favor of a better candidate for the job.
