Will Mauricio Pochettino coach USA after 2026 World Cup?

Mauricio Pochettino has infused immeasurable energy into the USMNT since taking over as coach in late 2024. In only one World Cup, the Argentine became the United States’ winningest coach with victories against Paraguay, Australia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Americans’ run came to an end in the Round of 16, however, with Belgium beating them 4-1. It was a disappointing end to a memorable World Cup, as the U.S. will now hope to reach its first quarterfinals since 2002 in 2030.

It’s unclear if Pochettino will be along for the ride by the next World Cup cycle. The former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain coach declined to reveal where his future lies after Monday’s loss, and instead spoke about the foundation he’s helped build for American soccer.

“I think we set the principles for the future to be very successful,” Pochettino said, per ESPN. “I think we feel proud because … I think we’ll create something that is going to stay now in the federation and in this country.”

We’ll see if the United States can keep the momentum going if Pochettino departs.

Mauricio Pochettino salary

The coach is making $6 million in annual base salary, per U.S. Soccer’s most recent financial information.
