Rúben Amorim has agreed a deal with AC Milan to become the club’s new head coach.
The former Manchester United manager has reached an agreement with the Italian side on an initial two-year deal, with an option to extend for a further season.
The Portuguese coach has accepted the offer from Milan, having turned down the opportunity to speak with Fulham over their vacant role. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Amorim will finalise his move to the San Siro this week.
Amorim has been out of work since leaving Manchester United in January. He was sacked after only 14 months in charge, following a difficult period at Old Trafford.
His first season ended with the club’s lowest league finish of the Premier League era, 15th, and defeat in the Europa League final. He was sacked after a mixed start to his following season.
Prior to his time in the Premier League, Amorim had impressed at Sporting CP. He led the Portuguese side to two Primeira Liga titles, with the first ending a 19-year drought.
The 41-year-old will take over a Milan side that missed out on Champions League qualification last season. Milan lost seven of their final 13 games to fall out of the top four in Serie A, with the club’s board branding the decline as an ‘unequivocal failure’.
Max Allegri was sacked as a result with Amorim now set to be named his successor. Milan had also held talks with former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.
