Red Sox Star Willson Contreras Could Still Be An All-Star After All

When Major League Baseball announced the 2026 All-Stars, the Boston Red Sox were represented by two players: Ranger Suárez and Aroldis Chapman.

Both are extremely deserving, but Boston has a few other players that certainly are worth as well, like Willson Contreras, Sonny Gray and Ceddanne Rafaela. Specifically, Contreras and Gray should be All-Stars. Contreras is slashing .285/.378/.536 with a .914 OPS, 19 homers and 56 RBIs. Gray has a 2.61 ERA and a 10-1 record in 16 starts. His 10 wins lead the American League.

Nick Kurtz, Ben Rice and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were elected to the All-Star Game already at first base. There’s at least some hope for Contreras, though, as Guerrero will not play in the All-Star Game as he wanted more time to rest and recover. Frankly, Contreras has actually had a better season than Guerrero in general. He has played in 84 games and is slashing .265/.346/.346 with four homers and 35 RBIs. There’s no reason why he should’ve been in the game over Contreras in the first place.

With him out now, all eyes should be on Contreras. If you’re a Red Sox fan, there’s still some hope for Contreras, at the very least.
