Packers’ Xavier McKinney reveals perfect reason for spending offseason in Green Bay

Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney really loves Green Bay. Despite the long offseason presenting a great opportunity for him to stay somewhere else to spend much of the vacation, the veteran defensive back chooses to stay in Titletown.

During a recent interview with Kevin Clark on ESPN, the former Alabama Crimson Tide star gave a sensible reason for why he continues to live in Green Bay in the offseason.

“Well, first of all, you don’t spend a lot of money here,” the 1-time All-Pro and 1-time Pro Bowler shared.

With career earnings of over $45 million (according to Spotrac), the 26-year-old McKinney can live comfortably anywhere, but Green Bay is where he feels at home.

But more than financial and practical reasons, McKinney loves being in Green Bay because of the people.

“People, they see me, and they know who I am, but I think there’s that respect level there of respecting my privacy,” McKinney said.

“It’s always good interactions… the people there are not obnoxious, and they have a lot of respect, so it’s cool in that way.”

McKinney spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the New York Giants, who took him in the second round (36th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

In 2024, he parted ways with New York and signed a 4-year, $67 million contract with the Packers.  That deal was later restructured.

So far in his Green Bay stint, McKinney has 10 interceptions (eight in 2024) with a forced fumble, 195 combined tackles, 2.0 sacks and 21 passes defended in 33 games.
