Kasper Hjulmand to receive significant sacking fee from Bayer Leverkusen

Last week, Bayer Leverkusen confirmed that Kasper Hjulmand will be leaving the club less than a year after taking over as head coach, with Carles Martínez Novell brought in as his replacement.
With Hjulmand’s contract terminated a year before its expiry, Bayer Leverkusen will have to pay a severance fee to the Dane.
According to Bild, the 54-year-old will receive around €2 million in compensation from the Bundesliga club.
Hjulmand took over from Erik ten Hag in September 2025 and led the club to a fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga, while reaching the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal and the round of 16 of the Champions League.
