Los Angeles Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski spoke about his mistakes in the Dodgers’ 7-5 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
Wrobleski allowed five of the seven runs the Mariners scratched across, allowing four home runs over the course of six innings pitched with seven strikeouts. Prior to Tuesday’s game, Wrobleski had only allowed eight homers over the course of the whole season, and hadn’t allowed more than four in an entire month.
Despite the result and his rocky performance, Wrobleski still saw the positives in his outing while acknowledging his shortcomings.
“I still threw the ball pretty well,” Wrobleski said. “I know that sounds crazy considering the number and the line, but for the most part, I think I did an OK job of the things that are in my control. At the end of the day, one of the things in my control is adjusting to what is happening within the game, and I think that’s where, me personally, I didn’t do a great job of adjusting.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had a similar takeaway from the outing, saying Wrobleski had to adjust his pitch mix to be more effective.
“You can tell that they were looking up and trying to pull the baseball vs. Justin,” Roberts said. “A lot of balls that were up, a couple of them out of the zone that they were getting to. So clearly their plan was to get on the fastball or get on stuff that was up in the zone, and he didn’t change eye levels enough. That’s why he gave up a lot of slug.”

Wrobleski, since the beginning of the season, has been a huge part of the Dodgers’ pitching staff, making an early move from long relief into the rotation. On the year, he has a 2.88 ERA through 18 appearances, and has struck out 87 batters across 112.2 innings pitched.
Through his 17 starts, Wrobleski has thrown six or more innings in 14 of his efforts, 12 of which qualified as quality starts.
His strong performances throughout the year gave him his first All-Star appearance, and he has secured his future spot in the rotation with his impressive outings.
