Chris Brazzell II injury update, former Tennessee star suffers torn LCL with Panthers
Former Tennessee football player Chris Brazzell II, a rookie wide receiver with the Carolina Panthers, suffered a moderate tear in his lateral collateral ligament during a practice on July 29, according to multiple reports.
The injury came on a noncontact play during a 7-on-7 drill. It was reportedly unrelated to Brazzell missing two practices earlier this week due to soreness in the same knee. He was taken off on a cart.
“He felt weird on it, sat down,” Panthers coach Dave Canales told reporters after practice. “We took him in. We’ll get a full evaluation and get a picture of that, and we’ll give you guys more information there.”
Brazzell is expected to be out for up to eight weeks, which could force him to miss the start of the start of the regular season on Sept. 13.
Brazzell was a third-round pick in this the 2026 NFL Draft after two years at Tennessee. He transferred to play for the Vols after spending his first two college seasons at Tulane.
He had 29 receptions for 333 yards and two touchdowns in 2024 before evolving into one of the SEC’s best receivers as a senior. In 2025, he earned All-America honors after totaling 62 receptions for 1,017 yards and nine TDs.
