OMAHA, Neb. — Georgia baseball survived its first elimination game in the College World Series.
It’s another must-win game for the Bulldogs on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET against Oklahoma.
Georgia (53-14) needs to beat the Sooners twice to reach the CWS finals. Oklahoma (40-22) can advance by winning Wednesday.
“It’s going to be fun,” third baseman Tre Phelps said after a 2-0 win Tuesday night against Texas. “We won three games in a row a plethora of times this year. The thing is to go one inning at a time, one game at a time and to have as much fun as possible. If things go our way, they do. If they don’t, they don’t.”
Coach Wes Johnson told players after a 4-3 loss to Oklahoma on Monday to keep believing in themselves.
That helped translate into a looser team on Tuesday.
Georgia’s chances to keep playing would appear to be good if it can keep pitching like it has.
The Bulldogs have issued just 4 walks to 33 strikeouts and have used just one bullpen arm in Justin Byrd who threw 62 pitches against Texas.
Oklahoma in two games has walked just 3 with 21 strikeouts with a 1.50 ERA.
“We get to play baseball again (Wednesday), and we get to play nine innings,” Johnson said. “So what more could you ask?”
