There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland heading into his second season following a standout rookie campaign where he flashed his potential as a top tight end in the NFL. But according to quarterback Caleb Williams, Loveland might already be.
Williams will have no shortage of weapons at his disposal this season, with Loveland and wide receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III among others. But Loveland will no doubt be one of Williams’ favorite targets. Last season, Loveland led the team in receptions (58) and receiving yards (713) while tying for most touchdowns (6). And that was after he was eased into the game plan.
Now, Loveland is heading into his second season with head coach Ben Johnson and Williams, where many analysts are projecting an All-Pro and Pro Bowl level season from the former top-10 pick. Williams believes Loveland can become the NFL’s best tight end when all is said and done.
“He can become the best tight end in the league,” Williams said. “I think he is. But stats and us going out there and proving it is what it is going to take, and to be able to do that we’ve got to put in work, we’ve got to build a connection, hang out inside and outside the building, have tough conversations or have open communication throughout the year and throughout camp. So its going to be exciting, it’s going to be fun. He’s a target to throw to and I’ve got a bunch of those guys out there that are equipped and ready to go.”
Loveland leads one of the NFL’s top tight end rooms, also featuring veteran Cole Kmet and rookie Sam Roush. But, already, Loveland is the top tight end of the group after his standout first season. Now, Loveland is positioned to make a name for himself as one of the league’s best and help Johnson, Williams and his offense in the process. Get ready to see a lot more of Loveland in 2026.
