When did Yashasvi Jaiswal last play for India?
Jaiswal was last spotted playing for India in the one-off Test match against Afghanistan in June 2026, and followed it up with his brilliant red-ball performance from the opening batter position of the batting line-up.
Though he got a call for the ODIs as Virat Kohli’s injury substitute in the Afghanistan series, including a 110-run knock off 86 balls, he has now been overlooked by the ODI squad for the current England series because Kohli is back.
The southpaw remains an integral part of India’s long-term Test strategy, while there is stiff competition in white-ball cricket to select players for the top order.

What next for Yashasvi Jaiswal?
Jaiswal’s immediate attention will revert to international cricket as India get ready for their upcoming series against the likes of Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia.
Given that his performances of the past two seasons have ensured that he remains the favourite in the longest format of the game, the real challenge will be at the limited-overs format that forms the crux of India’s cricket calendar for the rest of the year.
Even though he scored a century in ODIs against Afghanistan and done well when an opportunity came by his way, there will still be stiff competition from the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and the returning Virat Kohli for an opening position.
In T20 cricket, players such as Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi have been picked over Jaiswal lately.
