The Brooklyn Nets had one of the craziest first rounds ever last year, when they made five first-round picks.
The 2026 NBA Draft gets underway Tuesday night, and the Nets probably won’t match that, but they’ll still be busy, and it’s still crucial to their future.
Unlike the New York Knicks, who are NBA champions, the Nets have a long way to go.
In this strong draft class, the Nets have to be thinking they can get a key piece or two for their future.

Who did the Nets draft?
The Nets are making these picks:
- Round 1, Pick 6: Mikel Brown Jr. (Louisville)
- Round 1, Pick 28: Joshua Jefferson (Iowa State)
- Round 2, Pick 43:
Note that the No. 28 pick will be announced as Minnesota’s, but it’s coming to Brooklyn in the Julius Randle trade.

These are how Sporting News grades each of the Nets’ draft picks:
- Round 1, Pick 6: Mikel Brown Jr. – A-
- The Nets could’ve taken another point guard, but Brown was the top one in his class, and he’s got immense upside, including the NBA’s much-needed 3-point shooting ability. The only risk here is a back injury. If Brown is healthy, he’s a star.
- Round 1, Pick 28: Joshua Jefferson – B
- Jefferson is about as solid a ‘B’ as can be. He does a little bit of everything. He’s a sturdy frontcourt player who can also handle the ball. He had multiple triple-doubles at Iowa State, and he’ll bring talent all over the floor to the league.
