Why it took a judge to finally send Boerne to Little League World Series
The Little League team from Boerne earned its victory on the field Monday.
Tuesday evening, it won in the courtroom, too.
A judge dissolved a temporary restraining order that Tulsa National Little League had received a day earlier, mandating that Tuesday’s Southwest Region championship game proceed.
Monday night, the judge had granted a temporary restraining order that almost forced Boerne, also known as Texas West, to play the championship game against Tulsa. Earlier in the day, Tulsa had been disqualified from the Southwest Region tournament.
That made Boerne’s elimination game against Ascension Parish (Louisiana), the championship game.
Boerne scored four runs in the first inning as it defeated Ascension Parish, 4-1, to claim the Southwest Region championship game Monday in Waco to seemingly advance to the Little League World Series for the second time in three years.
It took more than 24 hours to assure them of the trip, though.
“We appreciate the Court’s timely and considered decision to vacate the Temporary Restraining Order, allowing enforcement of the Tournament Committee’s decision to remove Tulsa National Little League from the Southwest Region Tournament and declare its previous game a forfeit,” a Little League statement said late Tuesday. “The decision upholds our commitment to a fair and equitable experience for all children based on our Official Rules, Regulations, and Operating Policies.”
