Over the last few weeks, the trade rumors involving the Boston Celtics and Giannis Antetokounmpo have quieted down a bit due to the lack of tangible evidence linking the two.
On “The Bill Simmons Podcast” in late May, Simmons said he didn’t think the Celtics were interested in Antetokounmpo.
On his podcast after Game 4 of the NBA Finals, however, Simmons suddenly changed his tune.

“I thought Boston was out of this. I know Boston was out of this,” Simmons said. “And I was wondering if they were playing possum or not. I think they were playing a little possum. I think they’re in on Giannis… I think Boston is not ruling out the idea… I thought they were sitting out this Giannis thing, and I no longer think that.”
Simmons didn’t have any specific intel to back up his claim, but speculated that the Celtics might be trying to drive up Antetokounmpo’s price for the Miami Heat, or perhaps feel they could make a better offer. He also mentioned Brad Stevens’ comments earlier this offseason about wanting Boston to attack the paint more.
Whatever the reason, it sounds like Boston is still interested in the two-time NBA MVP and may seriously pursue him this summer.
