Germany Women book Brazil spot as Müller and Wamser sink Norway

A 2-0 win over Norway in Köln secured Germany Women top spot in Group A4 and guaranteed automatic qualification for next summer’s tournament in Brazil. This was not a performance defined by relentless pressure or a barrage of chances. Instead, Germany found separation in the details, turning two well-worked opportunities into a result that never truly looked in doubt.
Christian Wück’s side knew that victory would secure qualification with a game to spare. By full-time, the job was done.
The breakthrough arrived in the 17th minute through an unlikely source. A flowing move began with Carlotta Wamser’s long ball finding Klara Bühl on the left. Bühl cut the ball back into the area, where Linda Dallmann’s clever backheel laid it into the path of Marie Müller, who calmly finished for her first senior international goal.
Germany doubled their lead ten minutes later through another full-back. Dallmann was again at the heart of the move, carrying the ball forward before slipping a pass to Wamser. The Bayer Leverkusen defender took one touch before curling an excellent effort beyond Cecilie Fiskerstrand to make it 2-0.
Norway, on the other hand, enjoyed periods of possession and were not without opportunities. The visitors finished with more shots than Germany, registering nine efforts to Germany’s eight, and also recorded more touches in the opposition box. Yet Germany’s chances carried greater quality. The hosts generated 1.25 expected goals compared to Norway’s 0.57 and made their key moments count.
The numbers told the story of a Germany side in control without ever needing to force the issue. They held 55 percent possession and moved the ball with composure, completing more than 500 passes at an 87 percent success rate, while also edging the physical battle with 53 duels won to Norway’s 39. Norway stayed in the contest and had their moments, but despite remaining competitive throughout, they rarely created the sense they could truly shift the balance or overturn Germany’s advantage.
Much of Germany’s attacking threat came through Dallmann, who provided assists for both goals and consistently found space between Norway’s midfield and defensive lines. With several established players unavailable, performances like hers continue to underline the depth developing within Wück’s squad.
There was also symbolism in the goalscorers. Neither Müller nor Wamser are among Germany’s most established internationals, but both seized their opportunity on a night when qualification was on the line. As Germany continue their transition toward a new generation, contributions from emerging players will be crucial.
The result also completed a dominant qualifying double over Norway. After a 4-0 victory away from home earlier in the campaign, Germany outscored their rivals 6-0 across the two meetings, leaving little doubt about who deserved to finish atop the group.
For Germany, the celebrations at full-time were about more than qualification alone. After navigating injuries, squad changes, and the challenges that come with building toward a new cycle, they have secured their place at football’s biggest tournament with room to spare.
Their final qualifier against Slovenia on June 9 now carries little pressure. The primary objective has already been achieved.
Brazil awaits.
