Bishop Gorman had a bye and will head to SoCal to play Mater Dei in one of the nation’s marquee matchups this weekend. Liberty and Arbor View both got their first wins of the season and Bishop Manogue jumped back in to the top 10 with their first win of the year as well.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Nevada high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 13.
1. Bishop Gorman (3-1)
The Gaels had a bye over the weekend and will hit the road and play Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei on Friday in a battle between two of the nation’s premier programs.
2. Liberty (1-2)
The Patriots got in the win column with a 42-0 win over Desert Oasis. Junior quarterback Madden Dela Cruz had a big game, completing 12-of-14 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns. The defense was strong throughout as well, with a pair of pick-sixes from edge Aidan Webster and corner Rysen-James Dacosin-Arcala. The Patriots will host No. 4-ranked Foothill in one of the region’s marquee matchups on Friday.
3. Arbor View (1-3)
The Aggies were able to get in the win column with a 55-34 shootout win over Centennial. Not many schools anywhere out West have played a tougher non-league schedule than Arbor View. The Aggies scored just 33 points total in their first three games but went off in this one led by Oregon State commit Thaddeus Thatcher. Thatcher threw for 186 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another 51 yards and three more scores on the ground. Texas A&M commit Damani Warren and UCLA commit Zac Fares each added touchdown catches. The Aggies will host San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln on Friday.
4. Foothill (3-1)
The Falcons won a tight one over Las Vegas 35-28. Junior quarterback Ryder Dobbs had another big game, completing 16-of-25 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for 98 yards and another score. Nevada and NAU have offered Dobbs this season, and he’s establishing himself as one of the state’s top signal callers. Wide receiver Anthony Taylor caught four passes for a game-high 97 yards and a touchdown.
5. Churchill County (5-0)
The Greenwave continued to roll with a 58-0 shutout win over Sparks. This one was over early as the Greenwave led 30-0 after the 1st quarter and 44-0 at halftime. The Greenwave will play at Spring Creek on Friday.
6. Faith Lutheran (2-3)
The Crusaders lost to Morgan (Utah) 54-36 in a high-scoring affair. Quarterback Dominick Folino completed 25-of-38 passes for 405 yards and four touchdowns. Folino’s twin brother Gavin Folino was his main target, catching 10 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Folino has already exceeded his numbers from his junior year and has 29 catches for 528 yards and six touchdowns on the season. The Crusaders will host Sports Leadership & Management on Friday.
7. Coronado (3-1)
The Cougars looked well-rested coming off a bye and had a dominant 46-10 win over Desert Springs. Sophomore quarterback Governor Richburg was dialed in from the start, completing 12-of-17 passes for 269 yards and five touchdowns. Junior receiver Tristan Grau was his favorite target, hauling in four catches for 120 yards and a touchdown, and running back Matthias Rantissi rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown. The Pirates will play at Desert Oasis on Friday.
8. Sloan Canyon (3-0)
The Pirates are coming off a bye and will host Mater Academy on Friday.
9. Palo Verde (4-0)
The Panthers stayed unbeaten with a 38-18 win over Durango. The 4-0 start is the Panthers’ best in 15 years.
10. Bishop Manogue (1-4)
The Miners picked up their first win of the year, 31-23 over Reed. The Miners have played a tough schedule, with three of their losses coming against top teams from the Northern CA area and an in-state loss to top 5 ranked Churchill County. The Miners did most of their damage on the ground, rushing for 215 yards with four different backs getting at least five carries. Sophomore Joc Bailey was the leading rusher with 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Miners have a bye this weekend and will host McQueen on September 25.
