Tenerife forward De Miguel dies after on-pitch cardiac arrest

Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel, 30, has died in hospital on Tuesday following a cardiac arrest during a Spanish second-division match, the club said in a statement.

“Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” Tenerife said.

“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones that today weeps for this cruel outcome.”

De Miguel had a cardiac arrest after collision in stoppage-time with Futbol Club Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during Monday’s game and was rushed to the hospital, while the match was abandoned.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tenerife said that his medical condition had “worsened neurologically.”

De Miguel made his professional debut in 2015 with Leganés B and has played for eight other clubs in Spain, including Tenerife, where he arrived last year.
