After the Boston Celtics decided to move on from Jaylen Brown, some have started to question whether the Philadelphia 76ers could do something similar in the future.
As crazy as it might sound, Philadelphia has multiple stars on its roster now, and with the opportunity to continue to improve on both sides of the basketball, there’s no telling what could happen with a guy like Brown.
It doesn’t seem likely that he’d end up getting traded once again, but according to the latest, it wouldn’t be outrageous to say that if he doesn’t play well, the heat could instantly turn up in Philadelphia.

But play it out: The Sixers need to get shots for homegrown stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, and now need shots for James and Brown. It’s not just James who will need to sacrifice, but everyone will need to sacrifice. Even if there is no bad blood or resentment among the group, it’s still going to be hard to ask all five starters to change the way they play, to change how they’ve played as the lead dogs on their teams for their entire lives.
“We’ve seen that Big Threes do not work so well anymore–why do we assume a Big Five will work? In other words, things might not go smoothly in Philly, and if the team decides it would be better with one fewer star in the lineup, Brown would likely be the one to go. Star trade meter: This is TBD, too, but a difficult season will get this up to a 7 out of 10,” Sean Deveney wrote.
Moving on from Brown would have to be similar to what the Celtics did: moving on from a guy they obviously liked as a player but didn’t want to keep around for other reasons.
Brown obviously made some comments that didn’t sit well in Boston, and given how outspoken he is, whether those comments were fair or not, they could wear thin in Philadelphia.
