Kalif Raymond made statement on Day 2 of Bears training camp

The Chicago Bears are just two days into training camp, but there are already some big standouts from the offense. While Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland are expectedly impressing, it’s veteran newcomer Kalif Raymond who made a statement during Thursday’s practice.

Brad Biggs said it was a “highlight day” for Raymond catching passes from quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent while Clay Harbor noted “he’s quick, he’s fast, he’s shifty, he catches the ball” and will “be a weapon this year.”

The highlight of the day was certainly a 54-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Caleb Williams during 11-on-11, where Raymond caught the pass over cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. But that wasn’t the only highlight. According to Adam Jahns, Raymond nearly had another touchdown with “a quick reception in front of cornerback Jaylon Johnson” where “Williams hit Raymond in stride again and the veteran receiver almost broke away but Johnson chased after him.”

“Man, it’s been great to have ‘Lif,” Odunze said Thursday. “He’s been great for us as a veteran in the room, just with his insight, being in Ben’s offense for many years over there in Detroit from that side of things.

“But also just his receiver play: his details, his route running, his stride. He’s quick. You guys saw him today. He can get over the top of the defense. He’s brought a very positive vibe to the room, very humorous as well. Vibes are up in the room and also skill as well with him.”

Raymond has reunited with Ben Johnson, who coached him in Detroit, and we’re already getting glimpse of how the veteran wideout can succeed in this offense as the third receiver behind Odunze and Burden. This was the first time we heard about Raymond’s impressive outing, but it likely won’t be the last.
