Back in late May, Ben Steele from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Marquette men’s basketball will be going on an international trip to Vancouver in Western Canada from July 27th through August 3rd. As of July 13th, we didn’t know anything about the tour, though. More specifically, I didn’t know anything about the tour until Saturday when well placed moles inside Canada passed along this Instagram post from the 14th.
On Wednesday, July 29, Marquette will be in Langley Township at Langley Christian High School in the Vancouver suburbs for a game against University of Calgary. Tipoff is set for 3pm Pacific time, so 5pm Central. Neither the Langley website nor the Calgary website indicate anything about this event, so I don’t have any possible streaming details for you. If you’re in the Pacific Northwest and want to attend the game, the donation that’s mentioned on the Instagram is up to you apparently, so bring cash just to be on the safe side.
BRIEF SCOUTING REPORT!
Calgary went 17-17 overall last season with a 12-8 record in the Canada West Conference. That was still good enough to get them into the U Sports (Canada’s version of the NCAA) Final 8, but they lost their quarterfinal game to Victoria, 100-86. They were led in scoring by Mrigendra Dhaliwal at 13.3 points per game, and since the roster lists him as a first year student in 2025-26, I presume he’s returning and will be in this game. The Dinos only shot 30.5% from three-point range last season, so that’s an advantage for Marquette given that Nigel James, Royce Parham, and Adrien Stevens all finished the year at 33.3% or higher. Calgary shot about a third of their field goal attempts from long range, so it would seem that there will be something of a tactical challenge to this game since Marquette will presumably continue firing off threes at a solid clip even with assistant coach and offensive guru Nevada Smith now running the show at Siena.
Now we wait to find out what the rest of the games on the tour are and whether or not we’ll be able to watch any of them on a streaming feed…..
