Tyrrell Hatton writes off his own chances of winning The Open, ‘I’ll be on the sofa’

Tyrrell Hatton will have concerned fans with his comments ahead of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
Many have tipped Hatton to contend for the Claret Jug this week, as he has played well so far this season.
The Englishman won the LIV Golf event in Andalucia and finished in the top 10 at The Masters and the US Open.
Hatton also finished in a tie for 17th place at last week’s Scottish Open despite making a triple bogey on the first hole.
However, the 34-year-old is not taking any confidence into The Open and has already written off his chances.
Tyrrell Hatton downplays his chances of winning The Open
Tyrrell Hatton was asked to rate his golf game out of 10 during a practice round at Royal Birkdale before The Open.
“Seriously, it was five [out of 10],” Hatton gave his blunt verdict to Sky Sports’ on-course commentator, Wayne Riley.
“It felt horrific last week in Scotland, and I think it’s been a bit of a shlaf show in practice, so [it’s a] five – an optimistic five.
Hatton is known for being overly critical of his game, so Riley assumed he was exaggerating his struggles.
The two-time European Tour winner suggested Hatton would be in the final group on Sunday evening at Royal Birkdale.
“Yeah, good one. I’ll be on the sofa watching it,” the LIV golfer responded, suggesting that he has no chance.
Hopefully, for Hatton and his fans, he will exceed his expectations and contend for the Claret Jug in a strong performance.
