Boston Celtics' Summer League Leader Delivers Breakout Performance

The Boston Celtics improved to 3-1 on the Las Vegas Summer League Season on Wednesday night, defeating the Sacramento Kings (1-3) by a score of 82-76.

At 3-1, the Celtics are now done with the “regular season” portion of the Summer League schedule. The top four Summer League teams get a playoff semifinal on July 18 while the Finals are on July 19.

The 26 teams that don’t qualify for the playoffs all play a fifth game, sometime between July 17-19.

It’s unclear where the Celtics fall as of this posting.

Here’s what you need to know from the victory.

Hugo Gonzalez steps up

Gonzalez, who we thought was done with Summer League after sitting out in Game 3, delivered his best game of the session. The Spain native went for 24 points in 34 minutes, going 8-of-18 from the floor and 3-of-9 from three-point range. On top of that, he also had 10 rebounds, five assists and a steal.

After playing in 74 regular season games in 2025-26, Gonzalez was expected to be the leader of the Summer League group, and on Wednesday, he was.

Cenac shows athleticism again

Chris Cenac Jr., drafted in the first round out of Houston, played 25 minutes off the bench, scoring 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting. However, he also continued to flash his athleticism, pulling down 12 rebounds and blocking two shots.

With Mitchell Robinson, Luke Garza and Neemias Queta already in the mix, minutes at the big man position could be hard to come by, but Cenac has such a high, athletic upside that he may force Joe Mazzulla’s hand.

New contracts, some production

Signed to Exhibit 10 contracts on Wednesday, both Tucker DeVries and Milos Uzan started for Boston. Uzan, also from Houston, scored 13 points in 29 minutes, going 4-of-12 from the field. He also delivered seven rebounds and two assists.

DeVries, a rookie from Indiana, socred just two points on 1-of-7 shooting. He had two rebounds. He was a two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year at Drake.

Of note

The C’s sat rookie Dillon Mitchell on Wednesday. Mitchell was the team’s second-round draft pick out of St. John’s earlier this year. He was taken at No. 40 overall and should provide the Celtics with some more athleticism on the wing, the ability to finish at the rim, and some defensive versatility because of his length and athletic ability.

We’ll see if he’s in the lineup for Game 5.
