3 unanswered questions before training camp: Chicago Bears edition

It’s the NFC North’s turn in our “3 unanswered questions” series. This time, we are taking on the Chicago Bears, who are projected to finish 3rd in the division this season, even after a playoff run and division title last year. Quarterback Caleb Williams and head coach Ben Johnson turned this thing around quickly in Chicago, but just like everyone else, questions arise during the offseason.

The Bears need to have a 4,000-yard passer. This has eluded this franchise for years, and Bears fans do not take it kindly. Caleb Williams came up just 58 yards short of the mark last season. Will this be the year that the Bears get over the hump in that department? Williams might be the man to do it.

Even though the Bears had 33 takeaways last season, they need more. When you look at it, Kevin Byard III and Nahshon Wright accounted for 15 of them, but they’re gone. Someone else will need to step up on defense without much of a pass rush to rely on.

More fourth-down conversions will be needed for the Bears this season. After all, this is what Ben Johnson was known for during his time in Detroit. They only did it 29 times last season and converted on 51.7 percent of them (15 of 29). That was good for 21st in the league. With this being an area of expertise for Johnson, expect that number to grow dramatically.
