Ireland’s Alex Dunne finished in fourth place in the Formula 2 feature race at Silverstone, which was won by championship leader Nikola Tsolov.

Red Bull junior driver Tsolov is the first driver to win three Formula 2 races in a row after he won the feature race in Austria and the sprint race at Silverstone on Saturday.

It is a sixth win of the season for the Bulgarian driver, one off Charles Leclerc’s 2017 record of seven, and he now leads Gabriele Mini by 18 points.

Dunne is fourth in the standings as he just missed out on the podium after starting second on the grid.

Indian driver Kush Maini and Tsolov jumped past the front row of Dunne and pole sitter Rafael Camara into the first corner.

Tsolov pulled off a superb move on Maini around the outside of Copse corner in the closing stages of the race, and he had enough in hand to hold off Rafael Villagomez, who was charging through the order after starting on the alternative strategy.

Alpine junior driver Dunne was on track for a sixth podium of the season for the majority of the race but had to settle for fourth after being passed by Villagomez with three laps remaining.

The next Formula 2 round takes place at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from 17-19 July.

After he scored his first Formula 3 points in Saturday’s sprint race, Red Bull Junior driver Fionn McLaughlin finished in 15th place in Sunday’s feature race.

The 18-year-old, from Northern Ireland, was running in fifth place but fell away in the closing stages with tyre degradation.

British polesitter Freddie Slater finished in fifth after contact on the final lap with Matteo de Palo, who won the race.

In F1 Academy, British driver Alisha Palmowski won to extend her lead at the top of the standings to 29 points.

Swiss Chiara Battig was second and Emma Felbermayr, Palmowski’s nearest challenger, completed the podium.
