Bayern Munich’s Deniz Ofli celebrated multiple milestones in the 2025/26 season. First the left back became captain of the U-19s, then he was promoted to the U-23s in the winter, made his unofficial debut for the senior team in a friendly against RB Salzburg, before making his official Bundesliga and Champions League debuts as well under head coach Vincent Kompany.

Having developed as much as he could in Bayern’s academy, though, and his path to the first team blocked by imminent new arrival Nathaniel Brown, Ofli will need to take the next steps in his career elsewhere. According to Florian Plettenberg, the 19-year-old has chosen to go to midtable 2. Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC:

Deniz Ofli to Karlsruher SC – DONE DEAL.

Full agreement reached with FC Bayern. Loan deal with an option to buy. Karlsruher SC have beaten several 2. Bundesliga clubs to the signing. Bayern had reservations about including the option to buy, which is why they secured a buy-back clause. Vincent Kompany rates the 19 y/o left-back highly.

Bild reports, as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER, the estimated size of the buy option:

The purchase option of Karlsruher SC for Deniz Ofli is reportedly in the low single-digit millions range. Bayern has, however, secured a buy-back option for Ofli in return, as in particular Christoph Freund and Vincent Kompany think highly of Ofli.

Karlsruher SC have a history of making deals with Bayern, most recently loaning in young center back Paul Scholl last summer before exercising their option to buy recently. More pertinently, their previous regular left back, David Herold, also came from Bayern’s academy but was snatched up by Borussia Mönchengladbach earlier this summer. The Bayern academy graduate’s departure opened up a hole that another Bayern academy graduate seems set to fill.
