Seahawks need more from LB Tyrice Knight in 2026

The Seattle Seahawks got a breakout season from then-rookie linebacker Tyrice Knight in 2024. The fourth-round selection out of UTEP registered 88 tackles after breaking into the starting lineup roughly midway through the year. Expectations were high for Knight as a sophomore in 2025, but he failed to meet them.

A combination of injury and inconsistent play derailed Knight’s second season. The ex Miners standout recorded just 57 tackles, 31 fewer than his rookie output. Knight played 307 snaps, accounting for just 27.35% of Mike Macdonald’s defensive plays. It was far less than he played as a rookie (551, 48.72%).

Knight was essentially replaced in the lineup by Drake Thomas, who finished second in tackles for the Seahawks with 90 takedowns. Thomas was a third-year pro after previously going undrafted. Nobody really expected him to become a primary starter at linebacker opposite Ernest Jones IV, but that’s precisely what happened.

That provides Thomas with the inside track on the starting role again in 2026. Knight must enjoy a strong training camp period to create competition. Most importantly, he must avoid an offseason injury or setback to truly be his best self during offseason practices. He fell behind Thomas in 2025.
