J.J. Watts hypes up idea of Aaron Donald unretiring for Rams

J.J. Watt was on the Patt McAfee Show where he was asked about the Los Angeles Rams trade for Myles Garrett and possibility of Aaron Donald coming out of retirement to join the seemingly stout unit. Watt had praise for Garrett which is to be expected, and he hyped up the idea of Donald making a return to the Rams and making it count.
Watt in his response on the show praised Donald as one of the great players to ever play in the NFL, so if anyone could come out of retirement and succeed it would be Donald. Watt does explain that it may take some time to get into football shape, but he has no doubt that #99 for the Rams would be able to do some special things in time.
Watt goes on to talk about what so many Rams fans and certain fans of the NFL want to see: Donald playing alongside Garrett, on top of what should be a much-improved secondary from last season. Watt to no surprise would love to see how offenses handle (or don’t) the duo of Garrett and Donald.
Throw in the idea that if Garrett and Donald can’t make a play, then it’ll be someone else on defense and there’s reason that so many people are excited about a retirement that may not happen.
This team has Super Bowl aspirations with or without Donald, but check out Watt break it down himself:
“I have no doubts that he would be able to step on the field and do some extraordinary things. Especially when you’ve got that defense, you have Myles Garrett and it’s like, ‘Alright, who are you going to try and double team here? Where you wanna allocate your resources?’ You put those two guys on opposite sides, center can only slide one way, running back can only chip one side. There’s opportunity everywhere and it opens up everything. I can completely understand why he’d be considering it (coming out of retirement), and I can completely understand why he might be salivating over that potential opportunity. Especially with the Super Bowl I believe in their home stadium.”
After hearing Watt’s excitement at the possibility of a Donald return, McAfee asked Watt if he’d want to come out of retirement to join what could be a legendary defensive group.
“No. That will not happen.” Responded one of the best players to ever do it in his right as Watt chose to respond to a return to the NFL were a clear, “no”.
Donald hasn’t exactly said “no” to the idea of unretirement, and until he does this is a bit of story. However unlikely the story may be.
