Imagine if somebody told you at the beginning of the year that the Chicago White Sox could be buyers at the trade deadline. I know one fan base wouldn’t have believed that, and it is the Chicago Cubs

The Cubs and White Sox have both proven over the past few years that they can win, though the last two seasons or so for the White Sox have been some of the more embarrassing in baseball.

At the very least, the Cubs have remained competitive, though there’s an argument to be made that just a few years ago, the White Sox were much better than the team from the other side of Chicago.

Only time will tell what will happen at this trade deadline, but according to the latest report from ESPN’s Jeff Passan, we could see them battling it out for Sandy Alcantara. I know it sounds crazy, but yes, the White Sox could be buyers.

“Teams are far more bullish on Alcantara this deadline than they were last time around, when the gap between the Marlins’ ask and others’ willingness to give up significant talent was too large to bridge. With just this year and a club option for less than the qualifying offer remaining, the 30-year-old Alcantara throws hard, eats innings and induces ground balls,” Jeff Passan wrote.

I absolutely don’t hate the idea of the White Sox being buyers, and understand why this could have an impact on a team like the Cubs. The interesting part about the White Sox is that they have a lot of young talent, so making a trade for them should be relatively easy.

I don’t think making any blockbuster move makes a whole lot of sense right now, but it’s cool to hear that this could happen, and even more interesting to hear that the Cubs could be affected by it.
