Commanders urged to add 8-time Pro Bowl WR Tyreek Hill for Jayden Daniels

Tyreek Hill’s season came to an abrupt end last year.
After producing 265 receiving yards in the first four games, Hill suffered a devastating knee injury in Week 4, dislocating his knee and tearing multiple ligaments, including his ACL. The injury required immediate surgery and ended his 2025 campaign, raising serious questions about what comes next for the 32-year-old receiver.
As Hill worked through rehab, the Dolphins moved in a different direction. In February, Miami released the eight-time Pro Bowler as part of a salary-cap reset, opening the door for a fresh start elsewhere. Hill has said he plans to return in 2026, but his value now hinges on how much speed and explosiveness he has left.
Now, one of the most intriguing landing spots has been floated as a real possibility.
On Thursday, June 18, ESPN’s Aaron Schatz urged the Washington Commanders to pursue Hill, arguing that Washington has both the cap space and offensive infrastructure to make it work, and could use a veteran No. 2 option to give Jayden Daniels.
“The caveat here is ‘if healthy,’ but the Commanders could use a solid No. 2 receiver and a field stretcher who is a step up from Dyami Brown. They are currently third in cap space, so the economics work for them. Jayden Daniels is a dynamic young quarterback who could get the ball out to Hill,” Schatz wrote.

The Commanders still have Terry McLaurin, who was dominant in Daniels’ rookie year in 2024, producing 1,096 receiving yards and a career-high 13 receiving touchdowns on 82 catches, averaging 13.4 yards per catch. But other than McLaurin, the Commanders don’t have too many options at receiver.
Deebo Samuel, the team’s leading receiver last year, is gone, and they didn’t make any notable splashes in free agency. They added 29-year-old Van Jefferson, brought back veteran Dyami Brown, and added third-round rookie Antonio Williams, plus undrafted rookies Jaden Bradley and Chris Hilton Jr. But none of these players have ever proven to be reliable No. 2 options at the NFL level.
The injury from last season, however, remains the biggest question surrounding any potential signing. While reports immediately after surgery suggested Hill intended to return in 2026, there is still uncertainty regarding his timeline and whether he’ll ever get back that elite speed that made him such a threat in Miami.
But even if he’s less than 100%, his speed would force defenses to adjust, creating more one-on-one opportunities for McLaurin and opening running lanes underneath. Daniels is one of the most exciting quarterbacks in the league because of his dual-threat ability and deep-ball accuracy. Adding Hill would give Daniels potentially the most explosive receiving duo in football.
