What we're hearing about Ja Morant, Grizzlies latest rumors, trades

The offseason is here, and the clock is ticking again on whether star Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant will remain with the team.
Morant has been involved in trade rumors since Jan. 9, when two sources told The Commercial Appeal that the Grizzlies were listening to offers.
Memphis ultimately kept Morant through the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but the franchise traded co-star Jaren Jackson Jr., signaling a shift toward a younger rebuild.
Ja Morant contract
Morant has two years and $87 million left on his contract. Memphis is expected to continue listening to potential trade offers in the coming days.
The Grizzlies signed Morant to a five-year, $197 million extension in 2022. The deal made him the highest-paid player in franchise history.
Multiple reports have suggested Morant has desired a contract extension since last offseason, but that doesn’t appear to be in the Grizzlies’ plans.
NBA trade timeline
It remains unclear if Morant is more likely to be moved before or after the June 23-24 2026 NBA Draft. If last offseason is any indication, the Grizzlies traded guard Desmond Bane last June ahead of the draft. That allowed the team to acquire draft assets that helped Memphis land Cedric Coward.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the most accomplished NBA player currently involved in trade rumors. There’s a belief that his market could play a role in when or if Morant is moved.
The Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat are among the teams who have been previously linked to Morant.
