There have been some strange reports suggesting that the New York Yankees could move on from Jazz Chisholm Jr., their All-Star second baseman who can swing it at a very high level.

Chisholm had a slow start to the season, and I understand he’s set to hit the free agency market at the end of the year, but for a team that already has problems in the infield, moving on from their best offensive player in the infield outside of Ben Rice just doesn’t make any sense.

However, it hasn’t stopped people from suggesting it could happen, with Robert Murray recently reporting that there will be strong interest from other teams in Chisholm at the deadline.

“There should be [interest from other teams in Chisholm],“ Murray said. “Like obviously he’s a very he’s a polarizing guy. He’s super talented, but he’s someone who if you add him, I think it makes a team a whole lot better. If I’m the Yankees, though, I don’t mess with that. I keep him on the roster. I try to continue to add on the roster.”

I’m glad that Murray said the quiet part out loud, suggesting that the Yankees have absolutely no reason to let him walk at the deadline.

Free agency is completely different, as New York will have to see whether they want to keep him around, but it doesn’t have to deal with that for another couple of months, and the idea right now is to win a World Series, so moving on from an elite offensive player doesn’t help them get any closer to that.
