This is almost surely Sadio Mane’s last World Cup representing Senegal, at least in his relative prime.
That raises the stakes for the Senegalese legend. He’d love to lead his country on a run into the knockout stages, and even at this point in his career, Mane is certainly capable of making some magic happen.
Most fans of international football know Mane from his time in the English Premier League with Liverpool, where he was part of a dynamic front three with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Mane no longer plays in England, though, and so his preparations for this World Cup took place a little out of sight, out of mind for many fans.

Who does Sadio Mane play club football for?
The Senegal star plays his club football for Al-Nassr, a powerhouse in the Saudi Pro League.
He has been there since 2023, appearing in 89 matches and scoring 37 goals.
That follows Mane’s club career stints at Metz, Red Bull Salzburg, Southampton, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Mane followed the footsteps of his former Liverpool teammates, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho, who had both already gone to Saudi Arabia to continue their careers, albeit not with the same club.
