Jackson Koivun explains his decision to play his junior year at Auburn

Jackson Koivun recently spoke on his decision to return to Auburn for his junior year during a US Open presser on Monday, June 15.
Currently, Koivun is making his second US Open appearance as an amateur, which will be his final amateur appearance before officially turning pro. The now two-time national champion golfer is expected to make his professional debut on the PGA Tour at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois, starting on July 1.
He previously had the opportunity to leap to the professional game after his sophomore season with the Tigers. Through the PGA Tour University Accelerated program, he was able to be offered his PGA Tour card, but instead chose to play in 2025-2026 for Auburn.
He spoke on the decision Monday at a US Open presser, stating, “I just knew I wasn’t ready.” It worked out in his favor, as he became the first collegiate golfer ever to receive the National Player of the Year awards in multiple years and took home his second national championship.
Now Koivun prepares to make his debut on the PGA Tour as the start date for the John Deere Classic is just around the corner.
