Saturday night in Uncasville was more interesting than expected for the Indiana Fever.

Indiana blew an 11-point lead to the Connecticut Sun in a key Commissioner’s Cup game, but the Fever won anyway to improve to 8-5 on the season and 4-1 in the cup.

The Fever’s bid to defend the Commissioner’s Cup remains on track after Caitlin Clark scored 25 points in an 85-75 win, but Clark very nearly did not get to finish the game as she flirted with her first career ejection.

MORECaitlin Clark’s latest technical foul could create bigger problem for Fever

Clark had been issued a technical foul with 2:30 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Fever nursing a three-point lead.

Clark had “soccer-style” kicked the ball off the scorer’s table as it deflected out of play, which ordinarily warrants a delay of game penalty but had seen the All-Star guard whistled for a tech.

That created a scenario where, with 22 seconds left, Clark picked up a second technical and waved goodbye to the fans at Mohegan Sun Arena in response to the first ejection of her career.

Or so it seemed.

Clark’s first technical was overturned and deemed a team technical in the box score.

That meant Clark ended Saturday’s game with just one tech — and no ejection.

Clark did not escape unscathed, though. Her wallet will feel the wrath of her fourth technical foul of the 2026 season.

Because she has picked up a fourth tech, Clark will be fined $1,000 in accordance with WNBA rules.

If — or when — she picks up a fifth technical, Clark will get the same fine and a warning from the league. Accruing eight technical fouls in a season will warrant a $1,500 fine and a one-game suspension.
