Top 2027 Washington target projected to choose former Husky coach

Even though the Washington Huskies already hold commitments from four four-star wide receivers in the 2027 class, Jedd Fisch and position coach Kevin Cummings haven’t slowed down in their pursuit of one of the nation’s most sought-after prospects, Osani Gayles.
On Thursday evening, the nation’s No. 34 overall prospect and No. 7 wide receiver, according to 247Sports’ rankings, who preps at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and is originally from Northern California, cancelled upcoming official visits to Notre Dame and Tennessee, meaning he’s whittled his list of 30 offers down to a final three of Alabama, Stanford, and Washington.
Then, on Friday morning, Rivals insiders Andrew Bone and Tim Watts logged crystal ball predictions for the 5-foot-11, 185-pound pass catcher to choose former UW coach Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide when he announces his commitment on Saturday, June 27.
With four-star prospects Tre Moore, Braylon Pope, Zerek Sidney, and Dontay Tyson already pledged to the Huskies, Cummings has already reeled in an elite crop of pass catchers, and Gayles, who has the talent to compete for a spot in the rotation from his first day on campus, would still help elevate the talent in the room.
“Gifted inside receiver with the intelligence, confidence, and polish to elevate any passing attack,” 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins wrote in Gayles’ scouting report. “Manipulates defenders with impressive route tempo as he mixes speeds and snaps out of breaks at crisp angles. Can bypass coverage with advanced releases and easy acceleration…Combative more times than not in 50-50 situations with his play strength…Slippery after the catch as he stacks cuts to avoid would-be tacklers.”
If Gayles does go elsewhere, the Huskies have still put together a high-end wide receiver room for the future of Fisch’s offense in 2027 and beyond, headlined by Freshman All-American Dezmen Roebuck and a host of former blue-chip prospects, including Chris Lawson, Trez Davis, Jordan Clay, and Mason James.
