Texas A&M’s basketball program is entering its second season under coach Bucky McMillan, who, after leading the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament, including a first-round win of Saint Mary’s, immediately went to work this offseason, adding six players from the transfer portal, combined with to blue-chip signees, while forwards Zach Clemence, Jamie Vinson, and, most importantly, Mackenzie Mgbako, returned to the roster.
While Mgbako, who missed all but seven games last season, is still considered the most talented player on the roster with the most NBA potential, Kansas State transfer shooting guard PJ Haggerty averaged nearly 24 points per game last season and will more than likely match his 2025 scoring average based on how he fits in McMillan’s fast-paced scheme.
Needing more consistent play in the paint, Zach Clemence and Jamie Vinson have put in the work this summer, especially Clemence, who averaged 6.9 points last season and played his best basketball late in the season after leading the Aggies in scoring several times, including his career-high 29 points during the Aggies’ road loss to Arkansas.
This week, Texas A&M’s 2026-2027 roster headed to the Bahamas to compete in the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League, defeating the Victoria Vikes 112-88 on Monday afternoon. Led by Mackenzie Mgbako (17 points) and PJ Haggerty (16 points), Zach Clemence’s 13 points and impressive slam dunk after initially pulling up for a three-point attempt also stood out.
The former Kansas forward continues to play with more confidence and has already established himself as one of the more reliable three-point shooters, but he needs to continue adding strength to be a more consistent presence in the paint to reach his full potential.
