Unleash the Beast camp slated for July 18

WYANDOTTE, Okla. — Youth football players from around the area will have a chance to interact and learn from former NFL players during the Unleash the Beast football camp July 18 at Wyandotte High School.
Heading up the camp is former Miami Dolphins linebacker Roosevelt Collins. Past players assisting Collins included former Pittsburg Steeler defensive lineman Xavier Warren; Liffort Hobley, who played safety for St. Louis and Miami; Byron Williams, wide receiver for Philadelphia Eagles/New York Giants; and Scott Hines, who played linebacker at Texas Christian University.
The camp, which is directed by Jen McCloud, is returning for its fourth summer and includes two age groups. Those attending the event from first through fifth grades will train with the former professional athletes from 9 a.m. until noon. A shorter, higher-intensity camp for sixth graders through high school will be from 1-3 p.m.
The $40 fee for the camp include T-shirt, lunch and prizes. Those interested may register on the Wyandotte Bears Youth Football Facebook page.
Collins has talked in the past about the purpose of the camp beyond just football. He said he and his fellow former players work camps together in Texas and other areas. Among their goals is talking to young athletes about how to succeed in life, not just athletics.
“We tell them, not just about football, but how to be a great kid, how to listen to your parents. How to be a leader in the classroom as well as a leader on the football field,” Collins told the Globe after the 2024 camp. Collins said they even share their phone numbers with players sometimes to continue to mentor the young athletes.
