Tim Hardaway Jr. takes Miami Heat No. 10, his father's retired number

Tim Hardaway Jr. has officially been announced to the Miami Heat. Hardaway is following in his father’s footsteps in more ways than one.

He will wear the previously retired No. 10 jersey.

But wasn’t Hardaway Sr. set on not having his number taken from the rafters?

Yes, but plans seem to have changed as Hardaway Jr. was presented with the jersey. Even Pat Riley had jokes about the jersey coming down.

The decision wasn’t Hardaway Jr.’s alone though. According to him, it was a family decision, and he will wear it with honor for his Basketball Hall of Fame father, Tim Hardaway.

Hardaway spent a lot of time growing up in the old arena, watching his dad represent the Heat. Hardaway is looking forward to returning to the franchise, where tons of memories and family alike reside.

A first-round pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, Hardaway Jr. averaged 13.5 points and shot a career-high 40.7% from the 3-point line in 80 games last season with the Denver Nuggets. Over his 13-year NBA, he played for New York, Atlanta, Dallas and Detroit, and is finally returning home to Miami, where he starred at Palmetto High School.
