Three Players Who are Key to an Alabama Run in the College World Series

The Alabama Crimson Tide is in Omaha trying to bring home the school’s first ever baseball National Championship. The Tide reached the Mecca of college baseball for the first time since 1999 by defeating St John’s in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional last weekend. Alabama has survived the season despite subpar offensive performance throughout the season. The top three in the batting order, centerfielder Bryce Fowler, shortstop Justin LeBron, and C/OF Brady Neal, have carried much of the load for the team, with sporadic contributions from others.
Here is a look at what these three, who will be critical to Alabama’s chances to make a deep run, bring to the plate for the Tide.
#9 – Centerfielder Bryce Fowler
A JUCO transfer from Pearl River Community College,Bryce is a two year starter for the Tide. After manning right field for Bama in 2025 he was moved to centerfield, replacing Richie Bonomolo who was drafted by the New York Yankees. Fowler had a solid season in 2025, but stepped up big time this season, finishing as the Tide’s second-leading hitter. Manning the lead-off spot Fowler, a fiery competitor, is hitting .322 with 19 doubles, six home runs, 40 runs driven in, with a .918 OPS and 15 stolen bases in 17 attempts. When Fowler is on, the Tide offense clicks and he is the defensive leader in the outfield, covering the ground between the gaps with ease. Fowler plays with emotion that rubs off on the team.
#1 – Shortstop Justin LeBron
Considered the best player in the World Series by the pundits, the Tide’s two-hole hitter slumped for a while in the middle of the season, but is back on track. At his best Lebron is the best player in the country, and able to do things others cannot. After each of the last two seasons he had many opportunities to move on to other places where he could have made much more NIL money than Alabama is able to offer. Fortunately for Tide fans, the personable shortstop is big on family and loyalty. He is the unquestioned leader of the team and leads by example. Coach Rob Vaughn has said, “When your best player is also your hardest worker, it pays off.”
Lebron’s “off year” has consisted of a .277 average with 16 home runs, 13 doubles, 58 runs scored, 48 runs driven in, 125 total bases, a .932 OPS and 41 stolen bases in 42 attempts, and doing things almost nightly that are rarely seen at the college level. At the beginning of the season LeBron was considered a potential number one pick overall, and anywhere from first to third at the worst in the upcoming MLB Draft. As he slumped a bit projections fell to as low as 17th overall, but a recent surge has pushed him back into the top 10. If Lebron goes off during the World Series the Tide can go far, and he will cement a top draft pick. Whatever happens he will leave the Capstone as one of the greatest players in school history. For my money he is the best to ever wear the Crimson and White.
#10 – Catcher/Right Fielder Brady Neal
A LSU transfer who played on the 2023 National Championship Tiger team, Neal suffered through a subpar 2025. In his own words, “I really sucked last year and am grateful the coaches let me return for this season.” Neal had a career year for Bama in 2026, leading the team in hitting with a .328 average, with 10 home runs, 15 doubles, 51 RBI, and a 1.001 OPS while splitting time behind the plate and in the outfield. Neal was not even an everyday starter when the season began, but quickly hit his way to everyday status.
Neal and Johnny Lemm split the catching duties for much of the year, but when Lemm broke a finger in Regional and has been regulated to DH duty, Neal is back behind the plate for every inning of every game. Neal cemented his place in Tide history or as we say,“writ his name in Crimson flame,” with a clutch three-run homer in the 11th inning against Oklahoma State to help the Tide win the Tuscaloosa Regional. Neal looks more like the highly ranked player he was coming out of high school and is playing the game with youthful exuberance that he was missing last year and has worked his way on to MLB teams draft board.
If these three players click, and get help from Lemm, Eric Hines, and Jason Torres the Tide can go far. If the bottom third of the order – Brennan Holt, Luke Vaughn, and Peyton Steele – continue to provide good at bats, that will be a huge help as well. This lineup may not be full of gaudy numbers, but it has done enough to get here. With the Tide’s pitching the offense hasn’t had to score a ton of runs, but they are going to have to push a few across to win in Omaha.
