Brittney Sykes continues to look like one of the best expansion draft picks ever.

The Toronto Tempo’s high-scoring guard did her thing again on Wednesday night, dropping 38 points in an overtime win over the Connecticut Sun.

It was the second time this season Sykes scored 38 points, with that being a career-high she hadn’t reached before joining Toronto.

It’s also Sykes’ third 30-point game this season, which is the most in the WNBA.

Sykes and Marina Mabrey have formed a dream backcourt for Toronto.

Players of their talent level were never going to get passed up in the expansion draft, so the credit is really mostly about the Tempo taking them before the Portland Fire could.

But with that said, the Tempo also needed to figure out how to use Sykes and Mabrey effectively. So far, both have been able to thrive in Toronto’s system, and they’ve learned one another very well, too.

Sykes has always had strong scoring ability, but rarely has she been in a WNBA situation where she’s called upon to carry the bulk of the load.

There are nights with the Tempo where that’s exactly what they need out of Sykes. This season, she’s proving that she’s incredibly capable.
