Fans were left deeply concerned after Mets first baseman Jared Young was stretchered off the field following a frightening collision with teammate Nolan McLean during Thursday night’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Young was attempting to field a slow ground ball in the sixth inning when McLean also charged towards first base, with the pitcher’s knee striking Young in the head. Young immediately fell face first onto the infield dirt.
Medical staff quickly rushed over, with Young eventually placed on a backboard and taken from the field on a cart. The Mets later confirmed he had feeling in his extremities and was taken to hospital for further examination.

The incident understandably sparked an emotional response online, with fans describing the collision as horrible and hoping Young would be able to make a full recovery.
One fan reacted: “OMGG that’s horrible”
Another wrote: “man that’s some bad luck.”
There was also criticism of Young’s decision to dive for the ball, with one viewer saying: “Jared Young did that to himself”
Another added: “Get out of the way bro😭”
However, plenty of fans were more focused on Young’s condition following the frightening collision.
“Hopefully it’s nothing too serious. My goodness.”

And one more wrote: “Such a scary scene. Wishing him a quickly and healthy recovery!”
Young did manage to give the Citi Field crowd a thumbs-up as he was taken away, offering some encouragement after he had remained motionless on the field.
The 31-year-old has been a regular at first base for the Mets this season, batting .266 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs in 103 games. Mark Vientos replaced him defensively following the incident.
For now, the focus will be on Young’s hospital examination and any further update from the Mets after one of the scariest moments of their season.
