Texas Tech basketball gets pledge of OKC Millwood guard Amari Barrett

Oklahoma City Millwood won an Oklahoma state record 19th boys basketball state championship in March, and now one of its top weapons is bound for the Texas Tech men’s basketball program.

Amari Barrett, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard, told the Rivals recruiting service on Sunday, June 28, that he’s committed to the Red Raiders. Barrett averaged 17.0 points per game this season for Millwood (27-2), which beat Roland to repeat as the Oklahoma Class 3A state champion and end the season on a 20-game win streak.

Barrett averaged 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds his junior year, when the Falcons finished 22-5. The Falcons were state runners-up Barrett’s sophomore year. He transferred to Millwood from Edmond (Okla.) North.

He is a brother of T.O. Barrett, also a 6-4 guard who averaged 8.6 points per game this past season as a sophomore and part-time starter for Missouri.

Ball State announced Amari Barrett as a signee in November. He also had scholarship offers from UT-Arlington and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Millwood's Amari Barrett, left, goes against Dale's Denton Forsythe during a high school basketball game, Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at Millwood High School in Oklahoma City.

Barrett is the third high-school player in Texas Tech’s 2026 recruiting class, joining 6-7 forward Treaton “Trey” Hall from North Crowley and 6-5 guard DaKari Spear, who played for Dynamic Prep and Overtime Elite after three years at The Colony.

Tech has signed three players out of the NCAA transfer portal: 6-3 guard Cruz Davis from Hofstra, 6-1 guard Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn from UNLV and 6-1 guard Damarion Dennis from Wyoming.
